If you've been comparing yourself a little too much lately, read this
It is far too easy to trap yourself in self-doubt and inaction by constantly comparing yourself to others.
More specifically, comparing yourself to the very limited snapshot and outside perspective you get of someone's life.
It makes me really uncomfortable to know that, sometimes, people find my Instagram profile, look at my content, see the amount of followers I have, the way I show up – and walk away thinking that I am somehow "other" than them.
Maybe it seems like putting myself out there and showing up online comes easy to me – and to be honest, now it does to a large extent.
But there is a whole journey of doubting every decision, wrestling with impostor syndrome, and staying invisible online for what felt like forever in between.
That is what got me here – to building a business that lets me work from anywhere and live life on my own terms.
What you see now is a business and lifestyle that bring me joy, purpose, and the kind of freedom most only dream of.
But it wasn't always like this.
When I first started, I was really bad at putting myself out there (of course, I'd never done it before!).
I was questioning my every move, constantly wondering if I was cut out for this, if I knew enough, if I shouldn't just wait a little longer...
Every single post felt like a monumental task.
I'd write, rewrite, and then delete, and feel like a fraud.
Days of doubting and overthinking turned into months, and months into years, before I finally understood:
This wasn't really about knowing how to show up online; it was about my limiting beliefs and expectations.
I was expecting confidence and ease to just be there, when they were always going to be a result of the effort and discomfort I was willing to go through.
What I'm saying, my friend:
Just because it looks easy, doesn't mean it always is.
(this goes for any 'successful' person you see out there).
And, just because you're struggling with self-doubt now, doesn't mean you can't transcend it.
We all wish we could wake up and suddenly "be good at it".
But you need to stop expecting it to be easy.
You need to stop expecting to stumble on some hidden talent or passion that will not require your effort and dedication.
You need to stop comparing yourself to others who are steps ahead – not because they are so special, but simply because they started sooner.
The path to mastery starts when you drop the expectations and embrace being a beginner.
Do the thing. Learn from it. Adjust. Do it again. And again.
That's how you get great at anything.
Sorry I don't have an easy-breezy magic formula for you – I'd rather tell you the truth:
Start. Keep going. Keep trying.
And know that every step you take brings you one step closer to becoming the person you want to be.
Rooting for you,
Charlotte
